Transformation of Peace Culture is a Challenge for Universities in Pakistan: A Mix method Study

This study explored the perception of teachers and heads about the current challenges in the way of sustainable peace development in the universities, moreover, their role as transformer for the sustainable development (SD) of peace. Furthermore, this study identified the factors and challenges that are responsible for the development of peace culture. A convenient sampling technique was used to select universities, furthermore with the help of random sampling technique sixty (60) teachers were selected and their responses were analyzed by using statistical techniques. For quantitative analysis eight (08) head of departments from universities were selected and for the analysis of their responses NVIVO thematic analysis technique was used. The selected challenging themes were drawn from the quantitative and qualitative data as: pressure group and peer group, cultural barriers, lack of awareness about peace; Injustice; role of social media and lake of communication skills in the educational curriculum are the prevailing issues in the way of transformation towards culture of peace in the universities. The finding also indicates that there is a lot of opportunities in the university education for the transformation of sustainable peace. Institutions faced different obstacles, just like lack of resources, lake of the support system for administer law and order in the institutions. So, with all these things, the participants of this study were determined to work for the development of peace culture in their institutions for strengthens of Pakistan.
