Abstract

conventional and Islamic corporate social responsibility (CSR) to find their
consistency. For this purpose, the core definitions of CSR and original
sources of Islamic law based on jurisprudential debate and concepts are
being analyzed. This paper actually determines whether corporate social
responsibility is included in Islamic law. The study of CSR principles being
consistent with Islamic law are being conducted via jurisprudential tools.
These tools were created by the eminent Muslim scholars and jurists while
the original sources of Shari’ah were silent on the matter. They provided
jurisprudential solutions to make Islamic law more flexible and adoptive for
the rapid changes occurring across the world along with providing the
answers to new and emergent themes which were not present in the initial
process of Shari’ah legislation. The methodology employed to conduct
research for this paper is doctrinal and exploratory. The findings of this
paper will contribute meaningfully in the emerging debate of significance of
CSR in the notion of conventional and Islamic law.
