Abstract

The research deals with the situation of Freedom of Press in Pakistan and India. Qualitative method of research was used to conduct the study. Research is majorly based on In-depth interviews of journalists. Eighteen Journalists from the two countries were interviewed for better understanding of the situation of press freedom. The analysis of the interviews showed that the journalists are facing many problems in the selected countries. Among many hurdles, the journalists of the region are facing pressures from their media owners, advertisers, Government, Establishment, Religious groups, ethnic groups and political groups. Press laws and prosecutions against the journalists are also a big challenge for free and fair journalism. Results of the study also revealed that the situation of press freedom is more or less the sme in both countries.
