Medium of instruction Versus Teachers’ behavior: Effects on the attitude of students towards the learning of Biology

Abstract

The main objective of this study was to find out “The effects of medium of instruction and teachers’ behavior on the attitude of the students towards the learning of Biology”. The study was descriptive in nature with quantitative design. Target population was 10398 secondary school students studying in the government high and higher secondary schools of district DG Khan. Cluster random sampling technique was used to draw a sufficient sample of 536 students of tenth grade. Three questionnaires, (medium of instruction scale (MIS), teachers’ behavior scale (TBS) and students’ attitude scale) were developed and used as a research instrument. The collected data were analyzed through descriptive as well as inferential statistics. It was concluded through data analysis that the teachers’ behavior develops the attitude of students while the medium of instruction does not develop the attitude towards the learning of biology. Teachers were suggested to keep a positive and cooperative behavior with their students while teaching the subject of Biology. Urdu as a medium of instruction in rural areas and English in urban areas were also suggested in the teaching of Biology
