Role of Master Trainers in Professional Development of In-Service Science Teachers of Secondary Schools

Abstract

This present study aimed to observe the role of master trainers in professional development of in-service science teachers of secondary schools. The population consisted of 2191 science teachers and 76 master trainers of districts of Southern Punjab. Sample consisted of 724 trainees and 28master trainers from randomly selected four districts Multan, Layyah, Khanewal and Lodhran.The response rate of master trainers and trainees was 100% and 78.72% respectively. Training was conducted under SEP in the years 2002and 2003.The questionnaires for secondary school science teachers and master trainers were developed that comprised thirty eight and twenty five items respectively. The data were analyzed by computing percentages, frequencies and chi square test was applied. The main findings were: trainees participated for their professional growth,got more perfection over the content,familiarity with new teaching methodswas the most important objective and changes in the behaviour of trainees took place. It is suggested that INSET may be conducted by using modern methods of teaching at local or tehsil level.
