Development of Semi-standardized Achievement Test of the English Compulsory for Intermediate (Part-I)

The major purpose of the study was to develop a semi-standardized achievement test for Intermediate students in the subject of English Compulsory (part-I). A table of specifications was prepared. A pool of 168 multiple-choice test items was generated from the universe of test and was evaluated by a panel of experts for content validity. In the light of evaluators judgment all items were selected for pilot testing after required improvements. After administering the pilot test to a sample of 200 students, it was analyzed through item analysis and 42 items were selected, 53 items were recommended for revision and 73 were rejected for final try-out. The final try-out test comprised 95 items. The sample of the final test consisted of 556 students through convenient sampling. The test was administered in twenty-four Govt. Colleges of Punjab and the Federal of Pakistan. After data collection, the answer sheets were scored and results were tabulated. As result, 75 items were selected, 10 were rejected and 10 were suggested for revision. To evaluate results, mean, standard deviation, standard error of measurement, skewness and kurtosis were computed and their values were recorded as 44.42, 16.664, 4.33, .0621 and -0.591 for final tryout test. The reliability co-efficient for final try out test calculated using formula KR 20 was 0.93. It was concluded that final test was of middle difficult for the students and was valid and reliable tests to measure the academic achievement of students in the English. In conclusion, the selected items can be further try-out to various samples to complete the process of standardization of test.
