Challenges to the Liberal Legitimacy and the Role of State during COVID-19

After the Second World War the liberal economy was becoming stronger than the socialist economy, and with the collapse of Soviet Union the liberal economic order was established in the world. Where the liberalism established the system of free market economy and privatization, there is also decrease the role of the state. The liberal economy took everything away from State and pays nothing in return. This article is about the role of the state because in world history only the state is responsible to give the basic rights of the individuals and protect them from internal and external threats. In present, the whole world is facing the corona vires pandemic. This chaotic condition has challenged the liberal world order and also increases the importance of the state. The private economy cannot manage the drastic change but it creates so many problems for the state because it only deals with core class interests. Even in the time of crises, the market goes back to the stage and the state is the only actor which deals all the situation and pay a heavy cost to control the crisis condition. Through comparative analysis of socialist economic system of China and liberal economic system of America, the article explains which state system remained successful in supporting the threatened market economy and speedy social and economic recovery of its citizen after the pandemic COVID-19.
