Beauty Conceptualization, Body Esteem and Instagram Usage in Education at University Level

Abstract

The creation of Education at university level is one of the main sources of socialization for students. Another source of networking is social media. The themes of beauty and body esteem effect more women students than men. The present study was designed to examine beauty conceptualization, body esteem and Instagram usage in female students of the university. The sample of 120 is comprised of female students from public and private universities in Punjab, Pakistan. Broad Conceptualization of Beauty Scale (Tylka & Iannantuono, 2016), Body Esteem Scale for Adolescents and Adults (Mendelson, & White, 2001) and the Instagram Intensity Scale (Trifiro, 2018) were used as assessment measures. A correlation research design with a purposive sampling strategy has been used. Results reveal that body esteem has a significant positive relationship with Instagram usage. In addition, beauty conceptualization and body esteem significantly predict Instagram usage. It is concluded that beauty conceptualization had a great impact on Instagram usage.
