Importance of Jirga System in Conflict Resolution: Perception of People of District Zhob

Abstract

The purpose of study was to explore the perception of people about Jirga system. The population of present study was three Tehsils of district Zhob, Balochistan. 15 respondents were selected by utilizing purposive sampling technique and data was collected by in-depth interviews. At last data was analyzed by utilizing thematic analysis. The findings of the study reveal that Jirga is a social institute that promote the cultural values of the people, majority of the people are fully satisfied with the decisions of Jirga; they prefer to go Jirga for justice instead of court due to free and speedy justice. People support jirga’s proceedings as well as decision implementation. People are bound to follow the Jirga’s decision with the support of society. As a medium of solving people’s problems the Jirga is effective and has been able to win people’s hearts with the decisions they take. This is because they are effective and do not delay in coming up with a decision this takes away the wait from people when they have to wait for a court rooms, the Jirga are also able to maintain peace when the community gets out of hand.
