Relationship between Qualification of University Employees and their Children’s Civic Sense in Pakistan

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the perceptions of students and their parents about civic sense. Moreover, the study focuses on the relationship between perceptions of students and qualification of their parents in relation to civic sense. The sample was drawn from a public university; we involved the employees of a public sector university by applying purposeful sampling technique and selected their children through simple random sampling technique. Qualitative and quantitative methods were used to collect data from students and their parents. The civic sense of the children of the employees studying at secondary level was measured using a questionnaire on 5-point Likertscale.A semi-structured interview protocol was developed to collect data from parents. Descriptive statistics, t-test and one way ANOVA were calculated to infer the quantitative results. While thematic analysis was carried out to ascertain the findings from qualitative data. The study conclude the following: as to quantitative findings (a) there was no significant effect of parents’ qualification on the development of civic sense among their children in Pakistan. Overall students are well-informed about the civic sense and values. As to qualitative results(b) highly qualified parents were found to be more concerned towards the civic sense of their children.
