Abstract

The present exploratory study attempted to interpret the lived experiences of leadership in reputed Christian higher educational institutions, during and after their nationalization, to highlight the effects it brought on the leadership of these institutions. The focus of this study is to examine whether it was in fact nationalization that led to the later possible deterioration of leadership in Christian-owned teaching institutions, or whether there were other factors that contributed to the effects of nationalization. Interviews were conducted with seven Christian participants (3 male and 4 female) selected purposively from among members of the community who had served in the subject Christian higher educational institutions. Interviews were thematically analyzed. Main themes derived were how nationalization came about, positive and negative effects of nationalization, causes of decline in leadership, and future strategies for uplifting academic leadership.
