A Comparative Study of Deductive and Traditional Methods of Teaching Biology at Secondary School Level

traditional method and how secondary school student’s achievement and attitude in biology subject through these teaching methods are effected in Pakistan. It was an experimental research in which Deductive teaching was compared with traditional teaching methods. In Deductive teaching students work in small groups or pairs with multiple IQ level ,different background of education, and socio economic work together to achieve their common goals. In Deductive teaching students help and cooperate each other because one student performance depends upon all other members of the group. Students studying at Secondary level Govt. Girls Higher secondary school Attock Oil Company Morgah Rawalpindi were the population of the study. First of all researcher administered a pre-test of all students and then distributed the students into control and experimental groups’ behalf of pre-test. In experimental group students study with deductive teaching method. While 30 students studied with traditional teaching method. Same teacher taught both the groups. Both groups formation was 7 high, 7 low and 15 students were average. Control group and experimental group formulated almost equal base of average score and age criteria. Treatment period consisted 8 weeks and daily forty minutes. Deductive teaching method used on experimental group while traditional on control. Pre-test and post-test in the subject of Biology was used as a research instrument to attain relevant data and information. The test consists of 50 MCQs. These 50 items were developed from 1-4 chapters of Biology book of Punjab Text Book Board of class 9th. After application of T- Test on both scores, performance’s significant difference of both groups determined. For analyzing data, both test’s means scores were tested at the significant level of 0.05 and were calculated standard deviation, mean value, p-value, and t-value. The ultimate result of the research shows that Deductive teaching method was more effective for overcrowded class in Govt School. Students learn more and gave better results in Biology as compared to traditional teaching method. Furthermore it developed interest.
