Assessing the Quality of Life in Men with a Probable Diagnosis of Erectile Dysfunction (ED) in South Punjab

Abstract

Sexual dysfunction tends to be a disturbance in sexual desire inside
psycho physiological changes and behavior that defines the love
making result noticeable stress as well as sociable difficulty. Sexual
activities coordinate between various systems on the body. Hormonal
and neurological aspects play a significant role in sexual activity and
desire. The aim of the present study is to investigate the quality of life
among men with sexual dysfunction in South Punjab. A sample
consisting of 200 married male patients suffering from sexual
dysfunction is used for the analysis. The patients belonging to different
educational and professional background are considered. The sample
is taken from different cities of Southern Punjab (Multan, D.G Khan,
and Bahawalpur). The Quality of Life Scale (BREFQOL, 1997) by
WHO, Warwick Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale (2007), Kansas
Marital Satisfaction Scale (KMSS, 1986) are used as data collection
instruments. The statistical analysis establishes the significant
relationship between quality of life and erectile dysfunction. The results
clearly show that low quality of life in patients diagnosed with erectile
dysfunction is observed. From the sample of 200 males, 104 males are
employed and 96 are self employed. The results also show that
employed individuals are having higher rate of sexual dysfunction as
compared to self-employed individuals. The average age of the
respondents is 25 to 34 years with mean of 72.85, S.D 8.646 with mean
difference of 10.230. The quality of life is high among males between
age of 25 to 34 as compared to males between age of 35 to 44 and
above 45 years.
