Abstract

The study investigated the relationship between certain social factors i.e. Parents socioeconomic status, parents' education, area (rural or urban), and gender, with L2 pronunciation skills. The participants of the study were the grade 3 children of public sector boys’ schools, and girls’ schools from both rural and urban areas of South Punjab. They were given a text to read aloud from their English textbook. The relationship of the errors, the children made in pronouncing English words, and the social factors was then statistically calculated. The socioeconomic status (SES) of parents and parents' education were the factors which significantly affected pronunciation of children. At the same time there was seen an effect of gender although this was not significant enough.
